The client wanted fitted office furniture in Bournemouth for three people to work comfortably in a home extension, with as much storage as possible. The main challenge was that whilst the room was long, it was quite narrow with only one wall that had the full height for fitted cupboards.

The commercial fitted office furniture brief

Our client wanted 3 practical bespoke desks, with accessible file and storage drawers for printers and keyboards to allow each workstation to be used independently.  We started by using the longest wall and designed 2 bespoke desks around a full height fitted cupboard to keep confidential client files locked away.  We created a deeper angled worktop and pull out keyboard trays for comfort, and storage drawers that were easily accessible but fitted neatly into the base units.

For extra light at the workstation areas, we designed a light pelmet and fascia that fitted neatly over the top of the work areas. We also connected this to the full height fitted cupboards, giving a stylish flow to the bespoke office furniture with the added practicality of additional lighting.

Fitted office furniture challenges

On the other side of the room, where a window posed the biggest challenge, we created a custom desk with a pull-out keyboard tray and storage to sit on top. This was specifically requested by the client with set dimensions. We added some extra storage drawers for paperwork and stationery.  To maximise the storage space and to create a feature of the window, James designed a bespoke ottoman/padded window seat with additional storage drawer’s underneath.  This added a practical storage feature whilst offering an additional seating area for visiting clients.

Feedback from the client

The client was absolutely amazed at how much workable storage space had been incorporated into the design and fitting, whilst still creating a light and airy feel to the office.  The mix of colours and fitted furniture wood finishes – Light Winchester Oak and Ivory Gloss – gave a clean and light feel to the furniture, and the handle-less design drawers gave a streamlined and stylish finish that complimented the furniture and enhanced the room.  The client was delighted with the result and particularly with the window seat, as he had concerns that the window could result in lost storage space.  He loved the idea that he had two solutions in one – a seat and storage!
