The customer brief for this unit was to create a large display unit, that had a sleek and modern look and fitted in with the distinctive style of the house and other furniture in the room. The main challenge to this was that the customer also asked James to incorporate a drinks / bar area at one end and a custom desk work station at the other end.

The customer brief for this unit was to create a large display unit, that had a sleek and modern look and fitted in with the distinctive style of the house and other furniture in the room.  The main challenge to this was that the customer also asked James to incorporate a drinks / bar area at one end and a custom desk work station at the other end.

James started by creating the overall look and was careful not to make the unit look too solid, which would have looked very imposing in the room. By running the base units the length of the wall, this created a streamlined base and gave the customer an extensive mix of fitted cupboards and drawers.  Adding a mix of open, bespoke shelving and small open block display areas that complemented the smaller cupboards, James managed to create a light and airy look, with the gloss door reflecting light, adding to the whole appearance of space.

A small section of adjustable bespoke shelving was added to each side to give the display area flexibility and the whole look was a balanced and airy design with a modern, sleek look.

Once the overall look was accomplished in the design, James then incorporated the bar area into the right hand side by cleverly backing the fitted cupboard with mirror and adding glass shelves to give the illusion of a larger area when the door was opened and create a contemporary feel to the bar area.

On the other end, he backed the bespoke cupboard with a pinboard for notes and a space for a TV monitor and keyboard.  In the cupboard below, he incorporated storage for the tower and a pull out shelf for a laptop.

The customer was overwhelmed by the end result and was astounded that James had managed to satisfy all the family members by cleverly incorporating storage areas, display areas, a work station and a bar all in one unit – especially as it was all so neatly hidden and gave the appearance of a beautiful streamlined piece of fitted lounge furniture.

The mix of wood finishes and gloss door colours also added to the overall effect and blended perfectly with the look of the whole room.
