The client for this commercial office to be housed in an extension wanted a workable office for three people to fit comfortably, with as much storage as possible. The main challenge was that whilst the room was long, it was quite narrow and one wall had a window in the middle which meant that there was only room for full height built in wardrobe storage on one wall.

A fitted office furniture solution.

The starting point was for James to create 3 practical work stations, with accessible file drawers and storage drawers and room for printers and keyboards to allow each workstation to be used independently.  He started by using the longest wall and designed the 2 workstations around the full height built in storage that the client record for keeping confidential client files locked away.  He created a deeper angled worktop and pull out keyboard trays for comfort when using, whilst adding file drawers and storage drawers that were easily accessible, but fitted neatly into the base units.

For extra light at the workstation areas, James designed a light pelmet and fascia that fitted neatly over the top of the work areas, and connected the full height fitted cupboards, giving a stylish flow to the bespoke furniture with the added practicality of additional lighting.

On the other side of the room, where the window was the biggest challenge, James created a bespoke desk with a pull- out keyboard tray and storage to sit on top of the unit – this was a specific storage display requested by the client with set dimensions. He added some storage drawers for paperwork and stationery.  To maximise the storage space and to create a feature of the window, James designed a padded window seat with additional storage drawers underneath.  This added a practical storage feature whilst offering an additional seating area for visiting clients.

To complete the design on the side of the room and add some symmetry, another base fitted cupboard was designed to add further storage by incorporating adjustable bespoke shelving into the unit.  Above the unit, a case was designed to fit a photocopier with a display shelf above.  The client felt that his present photo copier was not big enough and so the case was designed to a larger specification, which would allow a larger photocopier to be fitted in at a later date.

The client was absolutely amazed at how much workable and storage space had been incorporated into the design and fitting, whilst still creating a light and airy feel to the office.  The mix of wood finish colours and materials – Light Winchester Oak and Ivory Gloss – gave a clean and light feel to the fitted office furniture, and the handle-less design drawers gave a streamlined and stylish finish that complimented the bespoke furniture and enhanced the room.  The client was delighted with the end result and particularly with the window seat, as he had concerns that the window would mean he lost valuable storage space.  He loved the idea that he had two solutions in one – a seat and storage!
